The move has been taken in a bid to equip the plant with new safety measures to protect it against earthquakes and tsunamis in the future.
TEPCO had previously planned to launch the 1,385MW No.1 reactor at the plant in March 2017 while the 1,385MW No.2 reactor by 2020.
The company said it will revise the design of the No.1 and No.2 reactors at the plant in Aomori prefecture in the north.
This is the company’s fourth nuclear plant in Japan, according to Reuters.
