Rapid power demand increase is anticipated in Abu Dhabi in line with the economic growth in recent years. Additionally, development of a large-scale urban area is planned around the Abu Dhabi Island, the economic center of the emirate. The Abu Dhabi Transmission & Despatch Company (Transco) is planning to supply power to the area with an extra high voltage (EHV) power cable network.
Transco, an Abu Dhabi government-owned water and power transmission subsidiary, has requested technical consultation from the Tokyo Electric Power Company (Tepco) based on its experience in planning and operating power systems with a large amount of EHV cables.
The scope of work covers the development of the master plan considering installation of EHV cables, the study on the impact of its installation, and cable route survey. Tepco is expected to propose the optimum plan for the EHV power systems in terms of supply reliability and cost.
Tepco will also assess the technical feasibility of the new EHV underground cables to be installed. Tepco will dispatch experts in power system planning and power system operation in order to transfer technology and knowledge.
