The ill-fated Soma Komur Isletmeleri mine in Manisa province collapsed last week leaving 301 workers dead, sparking countrywide anger.
Maden-Is labour union regional head Tamer Kucukgencay was quoted by media sources as saying, "We want the mining affairs directorate inspectors to carry out inspections and we will walk out until this has been done."
The action affects about 3,200 workers at Soma Mining’s three sites, including the one in Manisa province.
A report cited by prosecutor Bekir Sahiner showed that the fire might have sparked by coal heating up, sending deadly carbon monoxide through the mine; however, the cause of the disaster still remains unclear.
Earlier this week, Turkish authorities detained 25 mining executives on a provisional charge of causing multiple deaths and injuries in the disaster.
The police held eight suspects, including the company’s CEO in custody along with mine’s general manager and six other executives who are being held pending an indictment, reported Reuters.
