According to Xinhua, the hydropower station has transmitted 207 billion kWh since beginning operations in 2003. Twenty one turbines produce electricity at the project with an installed capacity of 13.3 million kilowatts.
The $22.5 billion project’s operator China Three Gorges Project Corporation has plans to add five more turbines to the project in 2008. The project was originally expected to have 26 generators producing 84.7 billion kWh per year but will be expanded to include six more turbines by 2012, reported Xinhua.
