The approval comes after the agency received 27 submissions as part of a two-week public review of the environmental scoping document (ESD) in October last year.

As part of the expansion, the company intends to integrate two additional deposits at Millipede and Lake Maitland.

Toro already received approvals to establish a processing facility and commence mining at Centipede and Lake Way deposits.

Toro managing director Vanessa Guthrie said: "The EPA’s approval of the ESD will allow Toro to continue preparation of the Public Environmental Review (PER) as the next step in the assessment process. "

PER will allow Toro to discuss with the community about expansion plans for Wiluna and development of the Millipede and Lake Maitland deposits.

With mine life of 16 years, the Wiluna project is expected to produce 30.2 million pounds of U3O8.
