Under the contract, Toshiba will supply four power generators and equipment to the 308MW Upper Yeywa hydropower plant, which is being developed by Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise. Deliveries will commence in March 2016.
Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise is the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contractor for the hydropower plant project.
Located on the Myitnge River in the Kyaukme District of the Northern Shan State, the Upper Yeywa hydropower project is scheduled to commence commercial operation in 2018.
A consortium of Lahmeyer International and Stucky were earlier awarded a contract to provide consulting services for the Myanmar’s hydropower project.
Hydroelectricity accounts for approximately 75% of the total power supply of the country, making it Myanmar’s primary source of electricity. The country is planning to develop more power plants to address growing energy needs.
Till date, Toshiba has delivered approximately 2,000 hydro power generators with over 56,000MW generating capacity around the world.
