As a result of Toshiba’s withdrawal, Westinghouse Electric has been selected as a strategic investor for the project as replacement.

The Sofia Globe reported the cabinet as saying in a statement in Sofia that the Westinghouse’s AP 1000 pressurised water reactor technology can be used in the Kozloduy unit VII project.

In December 2013, the cabinet decided to allow the Bulgarian Energy (BEH) EAD to sign strategic investor agreement as well as to commence the negotiations over the project’s structuring and financing for a new unit at Kozloduy NPP with Toshiba as a strategic investor and Westinghouse as AP 1000 technology owner.

However, Toshiba, along with Westinghouse, will be responsible to help the financing of the project through contacts with various export-crediting agencies, the statement said.
