Under the terms of the package deal agreement (PDA), Toshiba will assess steam flow, pressure levels and other parameters in three locations where Zorlu Energy plans to construct plants by October 2020.

Toshiba will negotiate the supply of STGs for the three plants if the results of the study meet the terms and conditions. Zorlu Energy Group is an independent power producer and member of Zorlu Holdings of Turkey.

The Turkish government and the private sector are promoting power projects on a massive scale to meet the growing energy requirements. In January 2016, Toshiba finalized a memorandum of understanding with Zorlu Energy Group, involving construction of geothermal, thermal and hydro power plants.

Toshiba, which delivered Japan’s first commercial-use geothermal steam turbine and generator in 1966, has so far delivered 54 turbines around the world, with a total capacity of 3,519MW.

Toshiba’s thermal and hydro power systems vice-president Takao Konishi said, “Toshiba and Zorlu Energy Group have successfully been working together on Unit 1, 2 of the Kizildere III Geothermal Power Plant and Alasehir Geothermal Power Plant and I am certain that the excellent performance and advanced technology of our STG can contribute even more to geothermal power supply in Turkey.”
