The Sundance power station, with a total power generation capacity of 2,124MW, is situated on the south shore of Wabamun Lake, approximately 40 miles west of Edmonton, Alberta.

The station comprises six units, which include units 1 and 2 with a capacity of 280MW each, unit 3 with a capacity of 353MW, units 4 and 5 with a capacity of 406MW each, and 399MW unit 6.

The Sundance facility uses around nine million tonnes of coal per year, which is mined from the TransAlta’s Highvale Mine.

TransAlta generates and markets electricity in Canada, the US and Australia through its portfolio of facilities fueled by coal, natural gas, hydroelectric, wind and geothermal resources.
