Located on the Ma River in central Thanh Hoa Province, the 260MW project will generate 1.55BWh energy for the national power grid.

Expected cost of the project is pegged at $410m with $295.2m to be provided by the World Bank while the remaining financing will be provided by the Trung Son Hydropower Company.

Trung Son chairman and director Ngo Viet Hai remarked that the plant is the first to be financed by the World Bank.

The project will help the country meet its growing domestic demand for electricity while bringing floods under control and providing irrigational benefits to rural and poor communities in the province.

Dam and ancillary construction, transmission line creation, social and environment impact management and capacity development are the four important components of the project.

The project is set for a completion date of 2018.
