Tunnelling work is expected to start early this year on the 48MW Bheri Babai multipurpose project in Nepal.
Work on the combined irrigation and hydropower scheme is to be completed by TBM. China Overseas Engineering Group (COVEC) won the construction contract for the 12km long, 4.2m diameter headrace tunnel following a competitive tender process.
Once complete, the project will help irrigate 60,000ha while also producing much needed hydroelectricity.
