Minnesota has more turkeys than people. The 45 million turkeys create a substantial waste disposal problem.

Fibrowatt of the UK, which has built power plants fueled by poultry waste, is proposing to build a $70 million, 48.5 MWe power plant that would burn 500 000 tons of turkey waste a year. Farmers would, according to the plan, get paid $2-5 a ton for their waste. It is hoped that the plant will be operational within 3 years.
