The plant was to be constructed in the province of Mersin on Turkey’s Mediterranean coast.

To cover 20% of Turkey’s power needs in 20 years, the nation is planning three power plants.

“The tender for the construction and operation of the nuclear power station as well as the right to sell electricity to Tetas has been cancelled,” TETAS said.

“We will announce the decision to the Russian and Turkish companies. We have 15 days to do this. We plan to launch a tender for both the Mersin plant and another on the Black Sea province of Sinop in the first quarter of 2010,” according to sources.
