Previous month, the presidents of Uganda and Congo decided to execute the 2007 Ngorduto agreement, which provides for improved political and economic collaboration between both the nations. The agreement was reached following a spate of military clashes between the nations over border disputes.

Uganda has already employed an ambassador to Congo. Both of them presently comprise a joint oil exploration committee to supervise exploration activities on both sides of the Albertine rift. Congo is close to awarding an oil exploration production license to Tullow Oil Plc, which already works on the Ugandan side of the border.
