State-run Energy Investment Fund will finance the construction of the plant, which is expected to have a power generating capacity of up to 700MW.

The plant’s construction will be supervised by Uganda Electricity Generation Co and will be started early next year.

According to media reports, Uganda’s energy ministry plans to develop the plant as a public private partnership project.

The Electricity Regulatory Authority (ERA) of Uganda expects that the country’s electricity supply will grow by 8.6% this year.
