Nine new offshore wind farms were connected to the national grid in UK, as per a report published by the European Wind Energy Association.

The report outlined that British waters house 58.9% of all European wind capacity while also being home to more offshore wind projects compared to the rest of the world combined.

Welcoming the report RenewableUK director of offshore renewables Nick Medic said that the report demonstrates the phenomenal progress in the UK’s offshore wind sector over the past year.

"It also provides further proof that major companies and investors have recognised the scale of opportunity offered by the UK’s tremendous natural offshore wind resource," said Medic.

UK’s installed offshore wind capacity stood at 2.9GW, capable of powering 1.9 million homes in the region.
