The 27km-long natural gas pipeline will start near Yoxall in Staffordshire, where a connection will be made into the national transmission system, and the pipeline will terminate at a block valve within the site of the new Willington C Power Station in Derbyshire.

The decision follows completion of examination process which met or exceeded all the statutory timescales laid down in The Planning Act 2008.

The Planning Inspectorate chief executive Simon Ridley said: "The certainty of knowing when a decision will be made following full consideration of public views provides developers and investors with the confidence needed to plan the infrastructure improvements this country needs to secure its energy and future economic growth.

"The examination of the Willington C gas pipeline demonstrates the diversity of applications The Planning Inspectorate handles.
"More than 30 nationally significant projects have been decided. There are a further 24 at different stages in the process and another 50 awaiting submission."

The Willington C gas pipeline, which will be laid underground avoiding residential areas, will connect to the NTS at a new compound, known as an Above Ground Installation (AGI), where there would be a small building with valves and metering equipment.
