Carried out as part of a £1m project, the work also covers installation of 500m of power lines across farmland, starting from 3 March 2014.

UK Power Networks South East Network Operations head Colin Barden said the replacement of section of cable aims to strengthen electricity supplies in the long-term following some cable faults in the area.

"We have planned our work with care, closely consulting the local authorities to keep the impact on the local community to a minimum," Barden added.

"We are constantly investing in our network to improve the reliability of electricity supplies and reduce the likelihood and duration of power cuts in the future."

Work is expected to complete in August 2014.

The project forms part of the £500m invested by the company each year in new equipment to enhance power supplies and cater for growing demand for electricity.
