Ron Holloway, Petrol Retailers’ Association (PRA) director, has said that the shift to the pre-pay model will depend on understanding the relationship between the shop and forecourt sales.
Northern Ireland’s fuel retailers have reportedly taken the lead in adapting to the pre-pay model, with the LCC Group opening a fully automatic, 24-hour forecourt site in Cookstown which runs completely on pay-at-pump technology.
Daniel Loughran, LCC Group director, said: The site is fully automated so there is no requirement for it to be manned or have an adjoining shop. It is very simple to use and translates into competitive fuel prices for customers. Given the current economic climate, we felt it was the right time to introduce it.
