The bilateral MOU covers cooperation between the two entities in increasing of power output, efficiency and safety through modernizing the turbine island equipment. It also aims at expanding cooperation in long-term service of installed equipment at NPPs and introducing the up-to-date technical solutions and financial solutions.
The Memorandum of Understanding was signed by Yuri Nedashkovsky, President of the SE “NNEGC Energoatom”, and Goro Yanase, Vice President of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation.
The signing of the Memorandum was attended by representatives of the Embassy of Japan in Ukraine and the Ministry of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine.

Mr. Yanase, vice president of Toshiba Energy Systems & Solutions Corporation, emphasized " It is an honor to sign on MOU with “SE NNEGC Energoatom” one of the world leading NPP operators. We are convinced to establish the Win-Win relationship that Energoatom will achieve NPP modernization, increasing capacity and stable electricity supply, and Toshiba will expand its nuclear equipment supply business in Ukraine nuclear fleet to contribute to Energoatom’s goals to achieve".
In order to organize the implementation of the Memorandum, during the meeting, an agreement was reached on the formation of a Steering Committee, consisting of two co-chairmen (one representative from each side) and members of the committee. The members of the Steering Committee will coordinate all issues of cooperation under this memorandum, as well as develop appropriate commercial agreements (or series of agreements), such as an agreement for equipment supply,based on this cooperation.
The Memorandum states that Ukraine and Japan are members of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and parties to the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons, which faithfully abide by their non-proliferation obligations. Partners believe that their cooperation in the peaceful uses of nuclear energy will contribute to the stable socio-economic development of Ukraine and Japan.
