Located in the Kardjali District of Bulgaria, the Krumovgrad mine is expected to generate gold and silver concentrate over nine years and produce about 74,000oz of gold per year.
Balkan Minerals expects to establish an open pit mine for ore extraction and treatment, in addition to mine waste facility and an integrated high density tailings system.
Under the contract, England-based AMEC will provide engineering services at the process plant as well as other associated services, implemented from the firm’s Perth and Sofia locations.
AMEC Asia Pacific Mining & Metals business president Malcolm Brown, commenting on the deal said, "This award is the latest in an unbeatable line of more than 220 gold feasibility studies and 125 gold projects delivered worldwide."
