The assessment marks the regulators’ Generic Design Assessment (GDA) process’ first step for the UK’s proposed new nuclear power station designs.
The regulators are planning to complete GDA process, subject to Hitachi-GE providing acceptable and timely submissions, of the UK ABWR in December 2017.
ONR and EA are working with Natural Resources Wales (NRW), the principal environmental regulator for nuclear sites in Wales, on GDA.
Upon completion of GDA, ONR, EA and NRW will help inform any subsequent assessments for site specific proposals that use the reactor design including Horizon Nuclear Power’s proposed developments at Wylfa Newydd on Anglesey and Oldbury in South Gloucestershire.
