The production of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) manufactured under the commercial name of Liten was launched at Litvinov, Czech Republic, in 1976, using a new technology of gas-based polymerization of ethylene.

Unipetrol said that the production of polyethylene was boosted in 2002, following the launch of the second HDPE unit with a planned annual capacity of 200,000 tonnes. The product portfolio of Unipetrol RPA includes more than 60 types of polyethylene.

The firm noted that, in addition to local companies, which purchased approximately a quarter of the entire production in 2007, polyethylene was processed mainly by manufacturers in the European Union and in the countries of the former Soviet Union.
