Of the total amount, $10m is being provided through the ninth round of the SunShot Incubator program, while the remaining $9m is being awarded for the Next Generation Photovoltaics III program.

The SunShot Incubator 9 funding program will support and enable advancements in solar energy hardware, reductions in soft costs, such as permitting and installation, and the development of pilot manufacturing processes.

The Next Generation Photovoltaics III program is aimed at pushing the limits of PV efficiency, while reducing costs, improving reliability, and creating more sustainable supply chains.

The DOE is currently accepting applications for the funding, which will advance foundational research projects, and driving technological innovations and breakthroughs that could lead to mature technologies.
