The countries will establish the Indo-US Joint Clean Energy Research and Development Centre (JCERDC) to undertake the research.

The US Department of Energy (DOE) has announced a $25m funding over the next five years to support the JCERDC.

The countries will initially focus on research in three priority areas such as building energy efficiency, second-generation biofuels and solar energy.

The DOE funding will be matched by US grantees to support $50m in US research and the Indian government will provide an additional $50m in Indian public and private funding to support research in India.

The JCERDC will be located in existing facilities in both countries, and the US funding will be used to support work conducted by US institutions and individuals.
