The department is partnering with 17 utilities, including San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E), under the program.

SDG&E president and chief operating officer Steven Davis said: "Collaboration between the public and private sectors will be vital to our nation’s preparedness for climate-related changes that could impact our country’s electric grid."

The partnership companies will identify ways to accelerate investments in technologies, practices, and policies to enable a resilient energy system.

In addition to developing and pursuing strategies to reduce climate and weather-related vulnerabilities, the partners and the DOE will develop resources to facilitate risk-based decision making as well as seek cost-effective strategies for a more climate-resilient US energy infrastructure.

"The goal of this partnership is to identify the challenges our energy partners are facing today and how we can work together to develop some solid solutions," David added.
