The liquefaction project involves development of liquefaction facilities to SLNG’s existing Elba Island LNG terminal located at Elba Island in the Savannah River, Chatham County, Georgia.

The first of the planned ten movable modular liquefaction system (MMLS) trains is expected to be commissioned in the second quarter of 2018 followed by the remaining nine units before the end of 2018.

Elba is expected to have a total capacity of about 2.5 million tons per year of LNG for export.

The new units will be modified to receive LNG from the new liquefaction facilities and will connect to Kinder Morgan’s existing re-gasification terminal at Elba Island.

Modifications to the existing Elba facilities involve installation of compression for vapor handling and new pumps for loading the LNG on vessels for export.

The project is support by 20-year contract with Shell, which is also responsible for ship-loading services.

The Elba liquefaction project secured the department of energy authorisation in 2012 to export to free trade agreement (FTA) countries.

The FERC also granted Certificates of Public Convenience and Necessity to other Kinder Morgan’s subsidiaries Elba Express (EEC) and Southern Natural Gas (SNG) for the EEC modification project and SNG Zone 3 expansion project respectively.

The $306m projects involve additional compression and related work for north-to-south capacity expansions on Elba Express pipeline.
