The awards, and recipients, were as follows:
• Lifetime achievement award – Thomas M. Leps, for his achievements and expertise in the field of geotechnical engineering over a 50-year career.
• Award of Excellence in the Constructed Project – The Saluda Dam Remediation project, which involved building a 2.4km long, 61m high backup dam and has been the largest ongoing dam project in the US for the last three years.
• Outstanding Paper Award – Guy Lund, for his paper Stability Evaluation of the Medina Dam. The paper, one of 60 presented during the conference, was selected based on technical content and the oral presentation.
• The USSD Scholarship – US$10,000 was given to John D. Rice, a graduate student at Virginia Polytechnic and State University, to support his research Long-Term Performance of Dam Seepage Barriers.
