The wind energy market increased its share in the nation’s share of clean energy while aiding job creation.

The 2011 Wind Technologies Market Report says that wind energy contributed to 32% of all new electricity generation capacity added in the US with cumulative new investments of $14bn.

According to the report 70% of all wind equipment installed in the country was made by domestic manufacturers, showing an impressive growth pattern from the 35% in 2006.

Energy Secretary Steven Chu said, "This report shows that America can lead the world in the global race to manufacture and deploy clean energy technologies."

Roughly 6,800 megawatts (MW) of new wind power capacity was added to the US grid, up 31% from 2010 figures and taking the total wind power capacity to 47,000MW at the end of 2011.
