USDA said the announcement concludes 2011 biomass project funding assistance for a total of 52 projects with $31m in grant and loan note guarantees through the Rural Energy for America Program.

This support helped to leverage a total of $154.5m of biomass project development in 26 states which will help produce clean, renewable heat and power for farms and small businesses in rural America.

USDA has awarded Alaska Alaskan Brewing with $448,366 grant to turn biofuel from waste grain, EWP with $146,281 grant for hydro project, NC-CHP Owner I with $5m loan for the conversion of wood to energy in Montgomery County, and Iowa Iowa Firewood Products with $24,232 grant for Firewood kiln project.

Other funding recipients include CommonWealth Resource with $49,875 grant for waste-to-biofuel plant, Legend Seeds with $17,035 grant for boiler installation, Mountain Wood Products with $500,000 grant for wood pellet processing, and Washakie Renewable Energy with $496,750 grant for biofuels pretreatment/ products plant.
