The new platform is expected to help utilities access data, share experience, knowledge and other lessons learnt to ensure better and reliable electricity and gas services.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company vice president and chief technology officer Rick Harris said the smart grid technologies are producing volumes of data for utilities that can be used to make electric and gas systems more reliable.

"The Utility Analytics Institute is helping to drive the innovative use of smart grid data for the benefit of not just our customers in California, but energy customers everywhere," Harris added.

The new online portal will help utilities access utility analytics research and information, and share strategies, time-saving measures, best practices, cost efficiencies and other lessons learned with other members.

The details for online peer groups, communities and events can be previewed at Member.UtilityAnalytics.com.

Members of the institute have exclusive access to analytics business process work groups, private and public discussion forums, webcasts, project databases, and a solution provider network.

Current utility members include executives from Black Hills, Duke Energy, Exelon, KCP&L, OG&E, Pacific Gas and Electric, SDGE, SMUD, Southern California Gas Company, Southern Company, and WE Energies.
