VA Tech Schneider has won five contracts in Brazil through its local subsidiary Schneider Electric Alta Tensao Ltda (SEAT). The contacts, valued at 27.4 million euros, are part of the expansion of the high voltage transmission system in the country. Three contracts awarded by CEEE, the utility responsible for expansion of the 500/230 kV transmission system, are for new substations. Two of these, for air insulated 230/138 kV substations in the cities of Taquara and Campo Bom, will be undertaken by the company’s Projects Business division. Each is worth 4 million euros. The third substation, in the city of Osorio, will be carried out by the company’s Services Business division in Brazil. The three substation projects will be constructed on a turnkey basis for completion in autumn this year.

The fourth project is the 230 kV Miranda II substation, ordered by Electronorte, to be built by SEAT in the state of Naranhao in the north of Brazil. This is due for completion in May 2002. Finally, SEAT will expand the Tijuco Preto substation in São Paulo for Furnas Centrais Eletricas. Under a contract worth 12 million euros, the company will supply four 362 kV, 200 MVA shunt capacitor banks and associated substation equipment for installion by January 2002.
