The only transport line for mine located in Tete province was obstructed on 12 May 2013 by protestors comprising a group of potters, who were claiming compensation for loss of livelihood due to mine’s development.

It was the second protest by the potters in the same month of May, reported Bloomberg.

The company, in a statement, said that the coal mine in Moatize Vale was reopened on 14 May 2013 that allowed the workers to proceed with their mining operations. It also restored the coal flow through Sena line.

Vale also stated that the company is looking to discuss the issue with the potters, however, adding that the protestors have no ground for making such demands.

Meanwhile, the company has outlined an investment of $4.4bn to develop rail and port facilities in Mozambique to export coal from Moatize.
