The Telegraph maintained that in the GBP9 billion auction of British Energy, Vattenfall was set to team up with RWE.
On its part, RWE indicated that it will not overpay for the nuclear firm as it is not in favor of a bidding war.
EDF, the other significant bidder, is believed to have told its shareholders that it will abide by ‘price discipline’. Centrica, the owner of Britsh Gas, is believed to be interested in the bid and favors partnering with EDF.
