Located in Constanti, Catalonia, the facility expands Veolia’s European platform for the treatment of hazardous waste to 65 sites in nine countries.

The Constanti facility is situated in the Tarragona petrochemicals complex. It treats hazardous waste from several of the industrial processes in Spain.

The facility, which has an annual treatment capacity of 60,000 tons, will increase the annual capacity of Veolia’s European platform to 1,100,000 tons of hazardous waste.

Veolia treats and recovers 2.9 million tons of hazardous waste per year in Europe.

SARP Industries president Jean-François Nogrette said: "With this acquisition and the integration of the Constanti facility into our European Platform for Hazardous Waste, Veolia has extended the provision of its services to industrial concerns in southern Europe, a region with a shortage of dedicated facilities.

"Hazardous waste treatment is a market with high growth potential. Our Group, with its innovative processes producing high quality raw materials, has access to unique technology, expertise and an organization that will underpin its growth in the treatment of difficult-to-treat pollution."

Veolia, which employs more than 187,000 people, designs and provides water, waste and energy management solutions.

In 2013, Veolia converted 38 million tons of waste into new materials and energy.
