The continued supply agreement helps to reduce total greenhouse gas emissions annually by about 47,000t.

Produced by Wheelabrator’s Baltimore facility, the ‘Green Steam’ supplies nearly 50% of the steam delivered by Veolia through its Baltimore district energy system.

The system provides steam, hot water and chilled water to 230 customers in the central business district, as well as Inner Harbor East.

Wheelabrator Technologies president Mark Weidman said the company has converted post-recycled everyday household waste from Baltimore City, Baltimore County and other areas of Maryland into green energy for more than 30 years.

"We are pleased to extend our 28-year partnership with Veolia Energy in its efforts to provide renewable "Green Steam" to its Baltimore customers," Weidman added.

Wheelabrator’s waste-to-energy facility in Baltimore reduces the volume of incoming waste by about 90% and is said to provide disposal of up to 2,250t per day of post-recycled municipal solid waste.
