As part of the 10-year, $70m contract, Veolia’s subsidiary Veolia North America Operating Services will manage the process of loading, packaging, transporting and proper disposal of water treatment sludge at the Clearwater facility.
The deal also includes the collection and treatment of TENORM – technologically enhanced, naturally occurring radioactive materials which are exposed to the environment as a result of human activities.
When completed, the Clearwater facility is expected to treat and recycle as much as 60,000 barrels of produced water per day.
Veolia North America Industrial Water and Regeneration Services executive vice president and chief operating officer, Steve Hopper said: “Ensuring the safe and efficient treatment and recycling of water is a vital part of oil and gas exploration activities, and it is critical that the materials generated from that work are properly managed.”
Veolia has also agreed to provide an Environmental Health and Safety program to protect Veolia’s employees and subcontractors, the public, and the environment.
Antero Resources senior vice president and chief administrative officer Al Schopp said: “Segregation and disposal of TENORM waste in a safe and reliable manner to an approved landfill is key to Antero’s operations.”

This is not the first time that Antero has worked with Veolia. In 2015, Antero offered a contract to Veolia to design, build, operate and maintain its water treatment and recycling plant near Pennsboro.
Veolia will also provide operations and maintenance services for the facility. The sludge and waste disposal contract is a separate contract.
