The Danish firm made the announcement after MidAmerican filed a notice with the Iowa Utilities Board (IUB).

Pending project clearance by the IUB, Vestas will supply and commission 1,000 units of its V110-2.0 MW wind turbines in the period 2016-2019.

The conditional agreement includes provisions for Vestas to deliver 100% of MidAmerican’s 2016 PTC Safe Harbor components. It also includes a 5-year Active Output Management (AOM) 4000 service agreement with options to extend for up to 10 years.

Vestas sales and service division in the US and Canada president Chris Brown said: "This project, if approved, will bring considerable economic benefits to MidAmerican’s rate payers and communities, and Vestas is proud to partner with MidAmerican Energy in their commitment to generate 100 percent renewable energy."

Vestas said if and when the agreement translates into orders that meet its definition for firm and unconditional orders, it will disclose company announcements unveiling specific orders under the deal in accordance with its defined order announcement policy.

MidAmerican, a subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway Energy, is claimed to be the largest regulated utility owner of wind energy in the US. With the investment in Wind XI, the utility plans to produce 85% of its retail load from wind.
