For this order, Vestas will supply is V110-2.0MW turbines, which will be manufactured at its four Colorado facilities. The company expects to deliver the wind turbines in the second quarter of next year.
The Wind XI project, which is expected to be completed in 2020, comprise multiple sites in Iowa that will be commissioned between 2017 and 2019.
The order also includes supply and commissioning of the wind turbines along with multi-year Active Output Management 5000 (AOM5000) service agreement.
Vestas United States and Canada sales and service division president Chris Brown said: “We are pleased to continue working with MidAmerican Energy on this next phase of the Wind XI project.
“The production, construction and operations of the turbines for Wind XI will generate significant economic benefits for landowners, their community and the supply chain that supports these American-made turbines.”
Recently, Vestas and its partners, CWP Energy Asia and InterContinental Energy, have reached an agreement for the development of 6GW Asian Renewable Energy Hub (AREH).
AREH is a proposed wind and solar hybrid power plant to be located in Western Australia’s East Pilbara region. Energy produced from the hub there will be exported to Indonesia via subsea electrical cables. The first phase development of the project is estimated to cost $10bn.
The hub is expected to begin supplying power by 2025, helping Indonesia to energy demand and renewable energy targets.
Subsequent phases of the project are expected to supply electricity to other South East Asian countries.
