The Danish turbine manufacturer will supply V126-3.45 MW turbines for the wind project located in the Glasscock County.

According to Vestas, the order demonstrates the growing presence of 3MW platform in the American wind belt.

Bearkat I will have a total of 57 V126 turbines, each of 3.45MW capacity. The project marks the first equity investment in onshore wind in the US by CIP and also its second onshore wind project in the state of Texas.

While CIP has invested $81m in the wind farm, the remainder $190m needed for its construction will be provided by tax equity investors.

Vestas sales and service United States and Canada president Chris Brown said: “We are honored to partner with CIP on their first investment in the US and expand our 3MW platform footprint even further.

“Texas and the rest of the wind belt are traditionally 2MW territory, but we’ve shown yet again that we can deliver a winning cost of energy in that region with both our 2MW and 3MW platforms and that provides tremendous flexibility and competitive advantage for our customers.”

Vestas will supply and commission the 43 out of the 57 turbines of the wind farm besides agreeing to provide Active Output Management 5000 (AOM5000) service to it for a 20-year period.

A full-scope service package, the AOM5000 contract has been designed to maximize uptime and energy generation while the 20-year period is to bring out optimized performance throughout the lifetime of the project.

Delivery of the turbines from Vestas is likely to commence in the third quarter with commissioning slated for the year end.

In another development, CIP has invested €250m in the 402MW Veja Mate offshore wind project in the German North Sea.
