Danish wind turbine manufacturer Vestas has won an order to deliver 190 units of its V90-3.0 MW model wind turbine for a project in the US state of California. The Alta project, supported by a 1550 MW power purchase agreement with Southern California Edison (SCE), is the largest single investment in the North American wind energy sector to date. The order is Vestas’ largest one for a single site. The Alta Wind Energy Centre is located near Tehachapi, California,and is owned by US renewable energy company Terra-Gen Power. T
he contract includes delivery and commissioning as well as a five-year service and maintenance agreement. Delivery is scheduled for late 2010. The first 50 turbines will be commissioned by the end of 2010 witht he balance to be available in the first half of 2011.
Wind components, all blades and a majority of the towers will be produced by Vestas in Colorado.
This order is Vestas’ eighth North American deal announced in 2010. Together they total 1336 MW of generation capacity.
