Under the contract, Vestas will deliver and install a total of seven V90-3.0 MW wind turbines at the Mogote wind farm.

The contract also includes a 10-year full-scope Vestas Active Output Management (AOM 5000) service agreement.

The wind facility is expected to generate 100GW/h annually, which is enough to meet the power needs of approximately 140,000 people in Costa Rica.

Vestas is scheduled to commence the turbine delivery in the third quarter of 2015, while commissioning is scheduled by the end of the year.

Hunt Energy Horizons business development head Hector Gutierrez said: "Hunt Energy Horizons is excited to develop Costa Rica’s excellent wind resources, and providing ICE (the local utility) a sustainable and economic option to help meet the country’s growing electricity demand.

"We found in Vestas and its V90-3.0 turbine model the key factors needed for our Fila de Mogote wind project to be a great success."

Vestas Mediterranean president Marco Graziano said: "Costa Rica’s bet on wind energy is an important step in the fight against climate change in a country particularly endowed with a spectacular natural environment."
