Construction of Vietnam’s Ninh Thuan 1 and 2 nuclear plants will be extended southwest as required according to changes to the master plan approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade.
The Ninh Thuan 1 power plant in Vinh Truong village, in the south central coast region, will cover 443.11 hectares of land and 440.57 hectares at sea. The Ninh Thuan 2 plant in Thai An village will cover 380.91 hectares of land and 337.63 hectares at sea, according to online newspaper Vietnamnet.
Unit 1 of Ninh Thuan 1 is expected to be connected to the national grid by 2020.
Local authorities are responsible for resettlement of local residents prior to construction, which has been delayed a number of times to incorporate safety lessons learned from the 2011 Fukushima nuclear incident in Japan, with an initial focus on infrastructure, such as roads and water and electricity supply.
