Solar power company Vikram Solar has started the operations at the 80MW solar plant in the Indian state of Gujarat.

The solar plant will supply power for Gujarat Industries Power Co (GIPCL) in Gujarat. It was developed under the Jawaharal Nehru National Solar Mission Phase II Batch IV Tranche-I Scheme with grid at Gujarat Solar Park, in Charanka.

The solar plant is spread over an area of 385 acres and consists of 2,50,429 modules. Together, the modules have a power generating capacity of about 18,86,000 million units.

Vikram Solar stated that it will provide 10 years of operations and maintenance services for the solar plant from the date of commissioning.

Vikram Solar managing director and CEO Gyanesh Chaudhary said: “It gives us immense satisfaction and pride to successfully commission this project. Despite quite a few hurdles like floods and adverse weather conditions, we have been able to execute the project plan with success.

“Our commitment towards environment friendly clean energy remains intact and we will constantly strive to build a better, greener, cleaner future for the coming generations.”

In April, Vikram Solar had commissioned a 20MW solar power project in the southern state of Karnataka for Jindal Aluminum, located in Bavihalu, in the Davangere district about 240km from Bangalore.

The solar project is part of the state government’s initiative to develop 1.2GW of solar power projects to be implemented in 60 administrative divisions across the state.

In June, the company said that it reached a milestone of 1GW of solar manufacturing capacity. It stated that this milestone is a significant contributor to Indian government’s target of achieving 100GW of solar capacity by 2022.
