The Scotia Atlantic Biomass plant, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Viridis Energy, started commended operations on three of its five pellet presses in late August 2013 and expects to bring to operations the remaining to presses by September 2013.

The plant, which has a capacity to produce 120,000 tons per year, will deliver its first shipment of 25,000 in December 2013.

The company recently has contracted Ekman as its exclusive agent to market the plant’s entire 240,000 ton wood pellet production over a period of two years.

Viridis CEO Christopher Robertson said that the facility, which is located near shipping ports on the Atlantic Ocean, will help address the growing demand for renewable energy sources in Europe.

"We are delighted with the quality of pellets produced at Scotia. As demand for wood pellets continues to grow dramatically and unique marketing opportunities similar to our Ekman arrangement surface, we will look for means to aggregate product offering through production expansion, as well as wholesale sources," Robertson added.
