“The VSC8479-01 is the latest generation of Vitesse’s popular VSC8479 product family. It is the first 10G transceiver to meet and exceed the 10G-EPON IEEE P802.3av/D3.0 Draft standard for burst-mode performance,” said Gary Paules, product marketing manager, for Vitesse. “It provides the high-performance functionality as well as the small size needed for this challenging application at a cost-effective price point.”

The new VSC8479-01 supports both XFI and SFI module interfaces, making it ideal for XFP and SFP+ host applications alike. Boasting the industry’s smallest footprint, the 12 x 12mm package size enables increased port counts and higher densities on the system host card. In addition to 10G-EPON system applications, the VSC8479 family, with over 100 design wins, is widely used in both 300-pin MSA transponder and XFP host applications. Due to the wide acceptance of 10G serial ports in Carrier and Enterprise applications, industry experts have predicted 10G port shipments will increase from one million in 2007 to seven million in 2011, a compounded growth rate in excess of 60 percent per year.

Vitesse to present and demonstrate at Optical Fiber Conference (OFC) in San Diego:

Vitesse will showcase a live demonstration of 10G-EPON symmetric burst mode driver and SerDes solution at the OFC/NFOEC 2009 Expo, from March 24 to March 26, 2009, in San Diego, California, at the San Diego Convention Center. In addition, the company will chair the Advanced PON/10G-PON technical session on March 23, 2009 from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., during the NFOEC NME session.
