The run-of-the-river hydropower plant on the Sainj river will include two Pelton turbines each with a generating capacity of 50MW.

The company secured the contract from Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation for the power project effective from September 2011.

Voith Hydro India managing director Amresh Dhawan said Himachal Pradesh, being a state in the Himalayan region, has a large untapped hydro power potential.

"Development of hydro power plants like Sainj hydroelectric project will help tap such potentials and bridge the gap between demand and supply of power in the country," Dhawan said.
