Under a €16m contract signed with ACEA, Voith Hydro will modernize the Alessandro Volta plant in Castel Madama, Rome province, by mid 2016.

The company will supply complete equipment for the two power generating units (4.5MW and 2.7MW respectively), Francis spiral turbines, generators, the respective governors, automation and balance of plant.

Voith has also contracts with BKW Italia, a member of the BKW Group, to work on two modernization projects.

The company will overhaul 2×1.1MW Kaplan turbines of the Pompegnino project in the province of Brescia, Italy, as well as supply generators, hydraulic governors, automation and electrical balance of plant.

For Pont St. Martin plant located in the province of Aosta, the company will replace the four horizontal Francis units with one new vertical seven-bladed Kaplan turbine (3MW) unit and one horizontal Francis machine (600kV).
