Chile’s largest electric utility Endesa Chile has signed a contract with Voith Hydro for the supply, installation, and commissioning of electromechanical equipment for the 150 MW Los Cóndores hydropower plant in the Maule Region of Chile.

Under the terms of the deal, Voith will deliver two Pelton turbines, two generators, plant and product engineering, manufacturing, erection, supervision, commissioning and project management services. The project’s key components will be manufactured at Voith Hydro in São Paulo, Brazil.

The Los Cóndores plant, currently under construction in the mountainous area of the Maule Region is expected to enter commercial operation in the fourth quarter of 2018, Endesa says.

Civil works, which are being carried out by Ferrovial Agroman, have already started with the construction of the work site facilities, the preparation of dump sites, and preliminary works for setting up camps and offices. Excavations of the tunnel portals, the construction of the cable connection yard, and preparatory activities ahead of the excavation work for the underground powerhouse are also underway.
