The supplies will be made to the Rasuwaghadi hydropower plant in Nepal and the Salal hydroelectric project in India.

At Rasuwaghadi facility, Voith will deliver three 37MW vertical Francis turbines, generators and automation systems, and balance-of-plant equipment.

Located in the north of Nepal, the project is being developed by the Rasuwaghadi Hydropower Company, a subsidiary of state-owned Nepal Electricity Authority.

At the Salal project on the Chenab river in northern India, Voith will undertake supply and service works to install six new runners.

The units at Salal were originally deployed between 1987 and 1995 and the refurbishment work follows erosion damage caused by the silt prone waters of the Himalayan rivers.

Voith Hydro will manufacture the runners at its workshop in Vadodara, India.

According to Voith, the Himalayan region has potential hydropower capacity of around 40,000MW in Nepal alone. India has a technically feasible hydropower potential of about 150,000MW with just a quarter of that developed so far.
